Welcome one and all - A little about us!

Welcome to Doinitmoggystyle: Our Journey Begins!

Hello fellow adventurers,

Welcome to "Doinitmoggystyle" – your ultimate guide to life on the road, where every journey is an adventure waiting to unfold. We're thrilled to embark on this exciting new chapter and share our experiences with you.

Our Philosophy

"Doinitmoggystyle" is a catch cry, a nod to how we travel and set up camp with the design quirks and charm of our old Unimog. Sure, it lacks air conditioning, emits lava-like heat from the floor, and has its fair share of rattles, but once you get past those foibles, it’s a veritable weapon of a 4x4 truck.

Meet the Team

Bridget and I have always been avid campers. Bridget, her brothers, and her parents camped their way across to WA from SA when they moved to Western Australia many years ago. As for me, in the late seventies, I travelled around Australia in a Subaru Sportswagon with my Mum and Dad. Our camper was one of the first Cargills Roof Top Car Campers, which allowed us to leave our camp set up while we explored.

Our Beloved Unimog

Our main mode of transport is an Ex Australian Army 1983 Mercedes Unimog Model U1700L. It’s almost 40 years old but has been well looked after by the engineering corp in Darwin, where it served most of its time. The combat engineers affectionately nicknamed it "RamRod Snr" after finding the name under the paint on the mudguards and doors. Despite its age, we’ve upgraded its wheels and tyres, allowing us to cruise at 90KM/H and tackle off-road tracks with ease.

The Trailer and Jimny

We also have a 2022 JB74 Suzuki Jimny, nicknamed "Punimog." This little ripper is garaged inside our 5m plant trailer when we travel. The trailer, originally built by Coastal Machinery, is equipped with 400 AH of lithium batteries, a 3000w inverter, a 60Amp solar controller, and 1000w of solar panels on the roof. This setup ensures we have all the power we need for our adventures.

Our Camping Roots

Camping holds a special place in our hearts. Alexandra and Sue's Bridge, where we introduced our three children to camping holidays, are particularly dear to us. In late 2023, we laid my Mum (Carol) to rest on the banks of Alexandra Bridge, making it an even more special place. If you visit, you might just see her Akubra in the trees.

Toppa – Our Loyal Companion

Toppa, our dog, is everybody’s mate. He’s loyal, has a fantastic temperament, and a high IQ. He goes where we go, so no national parks for us unless we find someone to look after him. If you see us around, give him a belly rub – he loves them almost as much as his ball and Frisbee.

Our Passion

We have a deep-rooted love for the outdoors, especially the bush. Camping has been our passion for many years. It's funny how we feel more at ease under a canvas roof than our own. Our favourite pastimes include attempting (albeit unsuccessfully) to catch fish, crabs, and Marron while basking in the bush's embrace.

In our early 50s, we dream of the day we can hit the road permanently, but for now, we continue our journey as subcontract business owners, specializing in the gate and fencing industry. Our expertise lies in repairing and installing both residential and commercial gates, whether manual or automated.
